Spring Break Crafternoon in the Learning Center: Wild Thing upcycled sweater mittens
- Event Date: Thursday, March 24, 2016
- Time: 1:00 pm–4:00 pm (CDT)
- Location: Zahn Learning Center, Spurlock Museum, 600 S. Gregory St., Urbana, IL
- Cost: $5 per crafter includes sweater/$3 for crafters who bring their own sweater
Inspired by the mittens in the special exhibit,” North of the Northern Lights”, Learning Center staff are offering visitors a chance to use felt, buttons, yarn, and shrink plastic claws to repurpose a sweater into a pair of gloves with some wild touches of imagination. Take a tour of gallery artifacts that show the clever strategies humans use to stay warm or keep a body protected. $5 per crafter includes a sweater, or bring your own sweater and pay $3. This craft involves simple sewing with plastic embroidery needles and using glue. Museum admission is free. We will have 10 or so sweaters on hand.
