Hourglass: A Musical Journey Through Time

A classical guitar recital by Oh Seung Kook Award-winning musician Seung Kook Oh was introduced to the guitar at the age of eleven. He mastered the classical guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid under Professor Eugenio Gonzalo. He has performed in South America, Spain, and Canada, as well as his home country of Korea.

Since returning to Korea in 1989, Mr. Oh has devoted himself to introducing classical guitar music to the people of Korea. He has given dozens of recitals, recorded albums, and taught students at his private studio, as a guest instructor at other schools, and through hosting lessons on the Educational Broadcasting System (EBS-TV) program Rainbow Guitar. In 2001 he played with the New Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the Seoul Art Center.

Due to Mr. Oh’s efforts, classical guitar has enjoyed a surge in popularity in Korea. Recordings of his music have been used as the musical theme of the TV drama The Hourglass and in about twenty movies, including The Sand Watch.

This concert is presented by the Spurlock Museum Guild Performance and Lecture Series. It is co-sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center and the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies.
