The film is the work of 2009 University of Illinois History graduate Anne Lukeman and her faculty advisor, Dr. Carol Symes. In the film, which served as her history senior honors thesis, she studies how students and teachers interact with and learn from history, using the University of Illinois as a case study. Using interviews of professors and students, as well as clips from a variety of films and other programs, she looks at the gen-ed experience through a large Western Civ class, the experience of history majors and historians working with sources, and the influence of history on popular culture and popular culture on history.
