Flatlands Dance Film Festival 2024 (Film Shorts)

Dance at Illinois will host the Flatlands Dance Film Festival (Film Shorts) on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 7:00 pm, at the Spurlock Museum. Tickets are $10/general admission and $5/students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door.

About the Festival

The Flatlands Dance Film Festival is dedicated to supporting and presenting the art of Dance Cinema, a medium which explores and innovates the intersections between filmmaking and dance making. The festival builds educational platforms, encourages dialogue, and promotes a diverse range of cultural perspectives from around the globe, showcasing a variety of films and shorts dedicated to dance performance, dance for camera, influential artists in the field, and the social impact of dance across the world.

The festival opens with Under Your Name, a short dance film directed by Dance at Illinois 2019 guest artist, Omri Drumlevich. Filmed in Champaign, Under Your Name is an excerpt from a dance film series titled Far: Arriving at the Unknown, which moves between six individual stories of fascination with the unknown and the primal urge to explore it.

The film competition portion of the Flatlands Dance Film Festival highlights a variety of dance films from around the world. This year's adjudicators include dancer and choreographer Jennifer Allen; dancer, writer, and multidisciplinary artist, Irene Hsiao; and filmmaker and movement artist, Omri Drumlevich. After the short films, awards will be presented to the Festival Winner (as selected by the festival adjudicators) and an Audience Award (as selected by the audience).
