Talk: ISIS and the Global Rise of Religious Rebellions by Mark Juergensmeyer

Part of the CAS/MillerComm Lecture Series

The rise of ISIS in Syria and Iraq is an example of how religious resistance to the spread of democratic values and religious tolerance has increasingly turned violent. Mark Juergensmeyer will report on his recent interviews with ISIS refugees in Iraq and address the clash of values motivating this and other religious challenges to the secular state.

The CAS/MillerComm public events series brings to campus people who offer unique cross-disciplinary contributions to the intellectual and cultural life of the university.
