Description | Pictured here from left to right are Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, and Concordia, the Roman goddess of harmony, embracing Mexico's national shield. Above them is a bald eagle, and at their feet is a cornucopia, which is typically included in depictions of the goddess of harmony. The cornucopia symbolizes abundance. Libertas is identifiable because of the Liberty Pole and the Liberty cap in her right hand. The pole and cap were symbols of liberty in Ancient Rome. Perhaps the figures’ appear on the banknote to convey how liberty brings about harmony in the country. |
